Mikhail Beketov (Михаил Васильевич Бекетов) was born January 10, 1958 in the Stavropol region of Russia. He became well-known a well-known journalist for his hard-hitting coverage of the construction of a new Moscow to St. Petersburg highway through the Khimki Forest. In 2008 a savage attack, seen by many as retaliation for this work, left him severely disabled.![]()

Mikhail Fedotov (Михаил Александрович Федотов) was born September 18, 1949 in Moscow. A lawyer and rights’ activist, he is the author of Russia’s 1991 media law and after a stint at the head of Russia’s Union of Journalists, he was appointed head of the Presidential Council on Human Rights in October 2010.![]()
