The most popular sports in Russia include ice hockey, ice skating, soccer, tennis and gymnastics. Russia’s sportsmen inherited a strong tradition from the Soviet Union, which produced a stream of world class athletes that dominated sports from ice hockey to gymnastics and ice skating.![]()
In 2014 the 22nd Winter Olympic Games will be held in Sochi, a Southern Russian city located in Krasnodar Territory. Due to open on February 7 and close on February 23, the games are set to include 92 events across 15 different winter sports. A paralympic tournament will also be held in Sochi in 2014.![]()
